Our Philosophy

Calabash Kennels and Cattery simple philosophy is that your pets should leave here in as good a condition or better than when they arrived. We provide first class facilities so that owners can achieve peace of mind, knowing their pets are in a safe and happy environment. We are transparent in our interactions with yourselves and are happy to answer any questions you may have. We are passionate about caring for your pet. We are a small boarding establishment which enables our guests to get to know and bond with our staff. The benefit of this is that we get to know your pets personally. We get to know if they like being scratched under the chin, if they love playing ball, climbing on the outdoor gym or curling up for a cuddle on our lap. Each pet is respected as an individual and we get to know each and everyone. We can then honestly comment to you how their holiday was.

We are your other children’s holiday resort.

What Our Clients Have to Say

What an amazing place! I’ve never been away from my Ragdolls but this family holiday we couldn’t take them. The staff at Calabash were absolutely fantastic! Milo and Axel had a ball I’m sure of it, they were happy to see us, but they seemed very calm and content at home. Will definitely use them again and every time.

I am grateful that they have been looked after with care and really appreciate the regular updates & photos. Georgia - special thanks to you as well for being so kind and informative when we ask for updates! The spacious rooms and play area were important to us as all my cats love adventures. The areas were spacious and clean as well. I am so glad that I found Calabash Kennels for my three cats.

Very grateful to have been recommended Calabash from a friend, as we have found a safe and happy place to leave Razzle to holiday when she can't join our holiday. It's such a hard thing leaving your pet, but they receive amazing care, and we get regular updates to keep my mind at ease. Thank you to the wonderful staff!

Our puppy had an awesome 10 day stay in the Toto suite. We have him booked in for another 10 days. He came home with behaviour intact and healthy. We all felt very comfortable and reassured we have a holiday home for our little mate.

Do my pets need to be vaccinated?

Yes, they do.
Dogs will require C5 vaccination which covers Parvovirus, Hepatitis, Distemper, Parainfluenza & Bordetella. Cats will require a minimum F3 vaccinationwhich covers Feline Enteritis, Rhinotracheitis and Calicivirus. . Even though your dogs or cats are vaccinated, either can get kennel cough or cat flu. These are like the human flu and not every strain is covered by the vaccine. Please check with your vet for further details.

Can I settle my pet into his/her room?

It’s not a good idea for you to settle your pet(s) into their room (even though we know you would love to & if we were boarding our pets we would as well). For anxious and worried pets this sometimes means they continue to look for you at that point and it can make some of the anxiety worse. Pick up & drop off time is also our busiest time which means we don’t have spare hands to accompany you. If we allowed everyone to settle their pets in, we would never get our work done. That is why we strongly recommend coming to inspect so you can see where your pet(s) will be staying.

Does my pet need tick and flea prevention?

All dogs must be treated for ticks & fleas & we need to know what was used & when. Tick treatment needs to be applied at least 48 hours prior to coming in for it to be effective the day they arrive. We do have Nexgard for sale here BUT it takes 24 – 48 hours before it is effective. All dogs must be treated for worms & we need to know what was used & when.

All cats must be treated for ticks & fleas & we need to know what was used & when. All cats must be treated for worms & we need to know what was used & when. Please note tick/flea collars are not accepted & will be removed. This is for the safety of your pet whilst boarding.

Any pet coming from a tick area must be presented having been thoroughly checked & office staff need to be advised as there may be additional charges incurred for checking your pet. Any pet coming in for boarding having been treated by a vet in the last 12 months for paralysis, please advise reception.

Will my pets have playtime?

They sure do! The Retreat has multiple large play areas where our guests go out twice daily for supervised play. Our playtimes are either in social groups or single playtime. Our Lodge guests also get to enjoy two play sessions in our outdoor play yards. Our Cattery also has a wonderful outdoor garden, along with an indoor play area for them to enjoy. Our Cattery playtime is single to each individual cat or family. We have a number of additional activities that you can add, just ask our friendly office staff!

My pet is on medication. What do I need to do?

We are more than happy to administer medications while your pet is with us. We do need you to supply us with the following information. Instructions on how many tablets & when we need to administer.
What the condition the medication is treating. The vet who has prescribed the medication, medication name, precautions our staff need to take when handling or administering. The medication must come in the packaging from the prescribed vet and the label must be able to be read clearly. As boarding can heighten stress levels any pet on multiple medications or vulnerable to changes in their environment are best looked after in a home environment.
Medication fee of $5.00 is applicable. For complicated medications or out of hours please talk to reception.
